Who We Are

Empowering Afghan Lives in Rochester

With the recent influx of Afghan immigrants to Rochester, New York, there has been a growing need to address the unique challenges faced by our community. Recognizing these needs, we established the Afghan Empowerment and Development Community of Rochester in early 2023. Our mission is to provide a center for the Afghan community to prevent isolation and overcome language and cultural barriers. By fostering a supportive network, we aim to enhance social services and create meaningful connections within the community.

Our Objectives

Establish a Community Center

Secure a dedicated physical space within the next two years, providing a hub for activities, meetings, and support services.

Language and Education Programs

Implement a series of language and education programs, including ESL classes, tutoring for children, and adult education workshops, aiming to enroll at least 100 participants in the first year.

Cultural Events and Celebrations

Organize and host at least four major cultural events each year to promote cultural pride and community engagement

Community Support Services

Develop a comprehensive support system to assist at least 50 families annually in overcoming barriers and achieving self-sufficiency.

Volunteer and Leadership Development

Create a volunteer program and leadership training initiative, recruiting and training at least 20 community volunteers and leaders each year.Partnerships and Collaborations

Establish partnerships with at least five local organizations to expand resources and support available to the Afghan community.

Youth Engagement Programs

Launch programs specifically for youth, engaging at least 50 young people in positive and enriching activities each year.

Awareness and Advocacy

Increase awareness and advocacy efforts by organizing at least three public forums or advocacy campaigns annually.
